Coach & Staff Code of Conduct This Code of Conduct applies to all coaches (head, assistant, volunteer, and paid), team managers, trainers, administrators, board members, and any individual acting on behalf of SNE Cannons Basketball (“Staff”). Participation in the Program is a position of trust and responsibility. All Staff are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and athlete safety. Professional Conduct Staff shall: Act in a professional, respectful, and ethical manner at all times. Serve as positive role models for athletes and represent SNE Cannons Basketball with integrity. Follow all Program policies, league rules, facility rules, and governing body requirements. Respect the authority of officials and refrain from confrontational behavior. Athlete Safety & Well-Being Staff shall: Prioritize the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of athletes above competitive outcomes. Provide instruction that is age-appropriate, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with best coaching practices. Maintain appropriate boundaries with athletes at all times. Avoid one-on-one situations with athletes where feasible; when unavoidable, interactions should be observable and interruptible. Never engage in physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual abuse, bullying, hazing, or intimidation. Zero Tolerance Conduct Staff shall not: Use derogatory, abusive, or discriminatory language or gestures. Engage in physical punishment, threats, or retaliation. Use alcohol, illegal drugs, marijuana, or be impaired while supervising or participating in Program Activities. Possess weapons of any kind at Program Activities or facilities. Communication & Social Media Staff shall: Communicate with athletes and parents in a respectful, transparent, and professional manner. Use Program-approved channels for communication whenever possible. Refrain from private or inappropriate electronic communication with athletes. Avoid posting or sharing content on social media that is harassing, defamatory, or inconsistent with the values of SNE Cannons Basketball. Mandatory Reporting & Legal Compliance (Massachusetts) In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws c. 119, §51A: Certain Staff members may be mandatory reporters and are legally required to immediately report any reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF). All Staff are required to report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct involving a minor to Program leadership, regardless of mandatory reporter status. Failure to report may result in disciplinary action and legal consequences. Staff shall also comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and cooperate fully with any investigation. Enforcement & Discipline Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to: Written warning Suspension or removal from coaching or staff duties Termination of affiliation with SNE Cannons Basketball Notification to governing bodies or law enforcement, when appropriate All enforcement decisions are final. SNE Cannons Basketball is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and athlete-centered environment in compliance with all applicable Massachusetts and federal laws. This Code of Conduct applies to all athletes, parents, guardians, family members, guests, and spectators participating in or attending Program Activities. Expectations of Conduct I will demonstrate good sportsmanship, integrity, and respect toward athletes, coaches, officials, staff, volunteers, opponents, and spectators at all times. I will comply with the rules of basketball, league and governing body policies, facility rules, and instructions from coaches, officials, and event staff. Parents and spectators will provide positive encouragement only and will not coach from the sidelines, interfere with coaching decisions, or confront officials or staff. I will place the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of athletes above winning or performance outcomes. I will not engage in abusive, threatening, bullying, hazing, or discriminatory behavior of any kind, including conduct based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, disability, or any other protected status. Use of obscene, derogatory, or inappropriate language or gestures—whether in person, online, or on clothing or signs—is strictly prohibited. Physical confrontations, threats, intimidation, entering the court or bench area without authorization, throwing objects, or damaging property are prohibited. Weapons of any kind, including firearms and knives, are strictly prohibited at all Program Activities and facilities, including parking areas, regardless of licensure. Alcohol, illegal drugs, marijuana, vaping devices, and tobacco products are prohibited at youth Program Activities. I will comply with all health, safety, and emergency protocols and all applicable laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I will represent SNE Cannons Basketball responsibly online and will not post defamatory, harassing, or inappropriate content related to athletes, coaches, officials, or the Program. Child Safety & Mandatory Reporting (Massachusetts) Certain individuals affiliated with the Program may be mandatory reporters and are required by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF). All participants are encouraged to promptly report any concerns regarding child safety, abuse, neglect, or misconduct. Reports made in good faith will be taken seriously and handled in accordance with legal requirements. By registering and accepting this Agreement, I affirm that I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor participant, or an adult participant registering on my own behalf, and that I have authority to enter into this Agreement. 1. Code of Conduct Acknowledgement I acknowledge and agree that I and/or my child will comply with: The SNE Cannons Basketball Athlete & Parent Code of Conduct The SNE Cannons Basketball Coach & Staff Code of Conduct (as applicable) I understand that participation is a privilege, not a right, and that violation of Program policies may result in disciplinary action, including removal from Program Activities without refund. 2. Assumption of Risk I understand that participation in basketball and related activities involves inherent risks, including but not limited to physical injury, illness, permanent disability, paralysis, death, or property damage. These risks may arise from physical contact, playing conditions, equipment, travel, environmental factors, or the actions or inactions of participants, coaches, officials, or spectators. I knowingly and voluntarily assume all such risks, whether known or unknown, foreseeable or unforeseeable, to the fullest extent permitted by Massachusetts law. 3. Release and Waiver of Liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release, waive, and discharge SNE Cannons Basketball, its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, coaches, agents, contractors, affiliates, event operators, and facility owners from any and all claims or liabilities arising from participation in Program Activities, including claims based on ordinary negligence. This waiver does not apply to gross negligence, willful misconduct, or rights that cannot be waived under applicable law. 4. Indemnification I agree to indemnify and hold harmless SNE Cannons Basketball and the released parties from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from my or my child’s participation in Program Activities, to the extent permitted by law. 5. Medical Authorization & Insurance I certify that I and/or my child are physically able to participate and have disclosed any relevant medical conditions, allergies, or limitations. In the event of injury or illness, I authorize SNE Cannons Basketball and its representatives to obtain emergency medical treatment when I cannot be reached. I understand that I am solely responsible for all medical costs and that SNE Cannons Basketball does not provide medical insurance coverage. 6. Travel & Transportation Consent I understand that participation in SNE Cannons Basketball may involve local, regional, or out-of-state travel, including transportation to and from games, tournaments, practices, or events. I consent to my child’s participation in such travel and acknowledge that: Transportation may be provided by parents/guardians, carpools, charter buses, or other third-party providers. SNE Cannons Basketball does not guarantee supervision during all aspects of travel unless explicitly stated in writing. I am responsible for ensuring my child’s compliance with all behavioral expectations during travel. I release and hold harmless SNE Cannons Basketball from liability arising from travel arrangements to the extent permitted by law. 7. Child Safety & Mandatory Reporting (Massachusetts) I acknowledge that SNE Cannons Basketball is committed to athlete safety and that certain individuals affiliated with the Program may be mandatory reporters under Massachusetts General Laws c. 119, §51A, required to report suspected child abuse or neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. I understand that concerns regarding child safety may be reported to Program leadership or appropriate authorities and that reports made in good faith are protected under law. 8. Media Release (Optional) Check here if you DO NOT consent to media use (If unchecked, consent is granted.) 9. Electronic Acceptance & Governing Law I understand that this Agreement is binding and enforceable to the same extent as a handwritten signature. This Agreement shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. General Policy All registration fees paid to SNE Cannons Basketball are used to secure coaching, facilities, league registrations, uniforms, equipment, insurance, and administrative expenses. As such, registration fees are generally non-refundable, except as expressly stated in this policy. By registering for any SNE Cannons Basketball program, participants and parents/guardians acknowledge and agree to the terms outlined below. 2. Withdrawal by Participant If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, including but not limited to scheduling conflicts, loss of interest, dissatisfaction with playing time, team placement, coaching assignments, or personal circumstances, refunds are subject to the following: Before the program start date: A partial refund may be issued at the discretion of SNE Cannons Basketball, minus any non-recoverable costs already incurred (including uniforms, league fees, administrative costs, and processing fees). After the program start date: No refunds will be issued once practices, games, or events have begun. 3. Injury or Medical Withdrawal Refunds or credits are not guaranteed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Medical documentation may be required. Any refund or credit, if approved, will be reduced by non-recoverable costs already incurred. 4. Dismissal or Removal for Cause Violation of the Athlete & Parent Code of Conduct Violation of the Coach & Staff Code of Conduct Disruptive, unsafe, or abusive behavior Failure to comply with program policies or applicable laws 5. Program Changes, Cancellations, or Force Majeure SNE Cannons Basketball reserves the right to modify schedules, locations, coaching assignments, divisions, or program structure as necessary. If a program is canceled by SNE Cannons Basketball before commencement, a refund or credit may be issued at the Program’s discretion. No refunds are guaranteed for cancellations or disruptions caused by circumstances beyond the Program’s control, including: Weather Facility closures Acts of God Public health emergencies Government orders Travel restrictions 6. Payment Plans and Late Payments Participants enrolled under a payment plan are responsible for all scheduled payments, regardless of attendance or participation. Failure to remain current on payments may result in suspension or removal from Program Activities. All outstanding balances must be paid in full to remain eligible for participation. 7. Chargebacks and Disputed Payments Initiating a chargeback or payment dispute without first contacting SNE Cannons Basketball may result in immediate suspension of the participant. Assessment of administrative or bank-related fees. Ineligibility for future participation until the matter is resolved. 8. Uniforms and Equipment Fees for uniforms, apparel, or equipment are non-refundable once ordered or distributed. Replacement costs may apply for lost or damaged items. 9. Credits Any program credits issued are non-transferable, non-refundable, and subject to expiration as determined by SNE Cannons Basketball. 10. Acknowledgement By registering for SNE Cannons Basketball, I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to this Refund, Cancellation, and Financial Policy, and that compliance with this policy is a condition of participation.
